thepanelist
About

Why this exists.

Real user research is slow and expensive, and most early-stage decisions get made on gut feeling instead. Not because gut feeling is good, but because the alternative is a two-week research cycle nobody has time for.

thepanelist doesn't replace real research. It gives you a fast, honest directional read so the gut feeling has something to check itself against before you spend real time and money finding out you were wrong.

It started from a familiar, specific annoyance: a pricing page or a cold-email draft sitting half-finished because nobody could say with any confidence whether a stranger would find it confusing, and getting five real strangers in a room to ask is a project of its own, not a five-minute detour.

What we optimize for

Four things this has to be, or it isn't worth building.

Fast enough to actually get used

A research method nobody has time for gets skipped, not improved. Minutes, not weeks, is the whole point.

Checkable, not just claimed

Every diversity and similarity number on a panel is computed from that panel, in the open. Not a vibe, not a whitepaper stat.

Built to disagree with itself

A panel where everyone agrees with you is a mirror, not a gut-check. We design for the skeptic on purpose.

Honest about the ceiling

Internal diversity is not external accuracy. We say so on this page, the methodology page, and the legal pages, on purpose, everywhere.

We're upfront about what synthetic panels can't do: they can't tell you what your actual customers think. They can tell you what's worth asking your actual customers about first.

See the methodology behind it, or just try one.
